The annual ABC picnic is scheduled !! 

We had 41 attendees in 2021!

The annual ABC picnic is scheduled for 8/28/22 at the Sandy Point State Park, Bluefish Shelter with water view, rain or shine.

The pavilion is ours all day so feel free to use it from 10am to sunset. Our picnic events will begin at 1pm with food delivery from Mission BBQ around 1:30pm. We are working on the catering which will include a variety of options including BBQ, side items, salads, watermelon, and dessert via a served buffet.

Would like to have a little dessert judging for most unique or outstanding item.

The pavilion fee includes an alcohol permit which is BYO. Soft drinks and waters will be provided. Feel free to bring anything you'd like to share or have for your self.

We will have a $400 raffle budget for cycling related items as well as corn hole and music. Please bring other games like Jenga, horseshoes, bocce, and anything else fun. Will have a special raffle for our new members.

The cost per individual attendee is $15.00 and ABC is covering the rest and guests are welcome. Everyone needs to register and pay in advance via the website. If you register using the smartphone app, do NOT select the "Invoice me" option.

Draft Agenda:

10:00 The Bluefish Shelter is available until dark

12:30 Arrange the tables and put on the table cloths. Hang the ABC banner and post the yellow ABC yard sign. Start the music

1:00 Picnic social begins. Sign in and receive raffle tickets. New member introductions.

1:30 Mission BBQ is delivered

2:00 Lunch is served

2:30 Several fun talks about ride experiences such as Mallorca Spain, ABC Adventure Rides, FestiVelo, Ohio to Erie Trail, Armed Forces Classic criterion races, etc.

3:00 Cornhole, bocce, etc

4:00 Dessert judging and prize

4:30 Raffle items ($400 budget)

5:00 Clean up and enjoy the pavilion until dark. Get some group photos by the water.

Action Item Volunteers:

  1. John Tyrrell is the Chair (I had no volunteers)
  2. Coordinate a menu for 40 people with Mission BBQ in Parole. Mission BBQ will deliver the food, lemonade, and tea along with plastic ware and cups - Tyrrell
  3. Bring and hang up the ABC banner and insert the ABC yard sign by the pavilion (bring a ladder, string, etc.). Tyrrell has the banner and signs. - Corby & Black
  4. Purchase and bring large trash bags
  5. Purchase and bring 1-2 watermelons, cutting board and knife - Black
  6. Purchase and bring name tags and Sharpie pen
  7. Bring a music playlist on a smart device that everyone will enjoy. Tyrrell has the sound system.
  8. Bring a 3-prong extension cord - Black
  9. Bring corn hole - Black
  10. Bring bocce ball - Corby, Tyrrell
  11. Purchase and bring 10 yellow and or red plastic table cloths and duct tape - Tyrrell
  12. Purchase and bring other decorations
  13. Bring desserts to share and possibly win a prize for most unique or outstanding dessert
  14. Bring a cooler full of sodas, water, and ice. Tyrrell has coolers if you need one
  15. Bring another cooler with ice for BYO beverages - Len Jones
  16. Bring anything to add to the raffle items that LJ Reiter is purchasing

All purchases will be immediately paid back by our treasurer with a receipt.

Refunds will not be granted. Registration will close on 8/26/22 so we can call in the catering order. Please let us know if you have special dietary requests by sending an email to TBD.

Feel free to bring a bike and get a ride in ahead of time.

Note that there is a nominal fee to enter the park. The fee is waived for military members and veterans who can show proof of service (CAC card, DD-214, Driver License with veteran designation, etc.). ABC will reimburse for anyone upon their request, especially if they help produce the event.

Notes about the pavilion:

This shelter holds 140 people. 28 parking spaces. 12 oversize picnic tables. Paved access for persons with disabilities. Easy access for Caterer. Water view. Has large group grill. Has 20 amps of electricity and lights. Open area around shelter. 325 feet to Restroom. 125 feet to beach.


·    Responsible person (18 years of age or older) must register and must be a member of the party for the entire stay.

·    An alcohol permit must be purchased (it has been) to allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages in this shelter. The alcohol permit can be purchased for this shelter when making a reservation or added to the reservation up to one day prior to arrival for a $35 alcohol permit fee. Permits may be revoked for cause by Park Manager, their designee or a Natural Resources Police Officer. Alcohol consumption is confined to the space under the shelter roof.

·    Shelter Information

·    Shelter Hours: Open 10:00 am weekdays and 9:00 am weekends to Sunset. After sunset, your day use permit expires and you may be subject to a citation. Please allow sufficient time to pack and load your belongings before sunset.

·    Day Use Service Charge: In addition to the Shelter rental service charge, there is a day use service charge to enter into the park. May 1-September 30, weekends and holidays: $5/person, weekdays: $4/person (out of state residents add $2 to all service charges). You must pay to re-enter. No refunds. Golden Age Pass and Maryland Park Service Passport holders enter the park for free. Golden Age Pass requires a one-time $10 fee and Passport requires an annual $75 fee for Maryland residents and $100 fee for out-of-state residents. Entrance is free to military and veterans with proof of service.

·    Caterers: Caterers are subject to the park entry charge. No vehicle should be driven or parked on the grass at any time. Catering companies are not permitted into the shelter area prior to area opening.

·    Trash-Free Parks: Maryland State Parks are trash free. All visitors must take their trash and recycling home with them when they leave. Please plan accordingly and bring large trash bags.

·    Parking: Vehicles are not permitted on the grass areas at any time. Access roads to the shelters may be used for loading/unloading only. Only one vehicle at a time is permitted at the shelter.

·    Amplified Music: Amplified music, DJs, bands or speaker podiums w/microphones are not permitted. Music from a CD player or iPhone/cell phone is allowed. The volume must be kept low as to not interfere with other shelter guests. If the sound is too loud, park staff reserve the right to ask the sound be turned down or off completely.

·    Alcohol Policy: The consumption, or possession of an open container, of an alcoholic beverage is prohibited in all State Park areas, with the exception of interior areas of full service cabins and motor homes, and designated shelters with an Alcohol Permit. Alcohol Permits may be purchased for $35 and will only be issued through a reservation for a designated shelter or other approved facility. Permits must be obtained at least one day prior to arrival. Permits may be revoked for cause by a Park Manager, their designee or a Natural Resources Police Officer. Alcohol may not be consumed outside of the shelter. ·    Entertainment: Carnival type games and booths (including but not limited to slides, moon bounces, cotton candy machines…) are not permitted. This equipment creates a visual distraction to other park guests as well as causes damage to the natural resources. NO kiddie pools/waterslides or hoses at the shelter.

·    Electricity: There is 20 amp electric service in each shelter. This is not enough to run large equipment. Generators are not permitted.

·    Decorations: You may use tape to secure decorations in the shelter. Please do not use staples, tacks, etc.

·    Please remove cooking liquids and grease from the park and dispose of them properly.

·    Recreation: There are ball fields, playgrounds, volleyball nets and horseshoe pits in the shelter area. Use of these areas is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Guests must provide their own equipment.

·    Beach: Glass and fires are not permitted on the beach.

Emergency and 24-Hour Contact Information: Call 911 for emergency assistance. For 24-hour assistance or to report a violation, call the Natural Resources Police at 1-800-825-7275 or 1-410-260-8888. For in-park assistance call the Duty Ranger at 410-980-3113.

Hours: The park is open daily from 7:00 am to sunset.

Pets: Pets are not permitted at the park from May 1st to September 30th. Please review the State Park Pet Policy at: http://dnr.maryland.gov/Publiclands/Pages/pets.aspx.
