I set out to do a 40 mile ride this Saturday led by Ken Keller.  It very quickly became clear that I was having difficulty keeping up the pace and the 40 miles would be a "bridge-to-far".  I told Ken I expected to be dropped and did not want to hold anyone back.  Ken and Jim Vanhorn quickly consulted and decided that Jim and I would ride as a group of "two" and Jim graciously let me set the pace (which turned out to average  about 14.2 miles per hour over 29.5 miles.)  I got my exercise in and enjoyed chatting along the way with Jim thanks to the  graciouness which both Ken and Jim showed me.  I think their actions are a testament to just what a wonderful grouip of people belong to the club.  For my part, I am hoping to be permitted to lead some rides (20 - 30 miles) at about 14 miles per hour starting in April.  I know of some great quiet country FLAT roads on the "other side" of the bridge where anyone interested in a releatively easy cruse that still gets in a good bit of exercise could join me and then work on getting the calories back at lunch before heading home.

Thank you for giving credit where credit is due! Jim and Ken are tireless ride leaders, and each of them has stayed back many a time to help a rider.
We welcome your participation as a ride leader. Let me know when you're ready to start and we'll get you on the schedule!
