We are saddened to notify club members of the death of Jim Claffey on August 26, 2023. Jim served as ABC Vice President from the early 2000s through approximately 2007, then as club President for at least one year through 2008, then as Treasurer and Webmaster while Ken Keeler was President, through January 2012. There was no obituary. 

For several years in the mid-2000s he performed most or all of the club officer roles single handedly. In December 2008 when Ken Keeler was elected club President he posted this tribute to Jim: 

I want to thank our former ABC president Jim Claffey for his undying commitment and service as our president for many years! Jim produced the monthly newsletter, maintained the web site, advocated for safer roads for cycling, participated on government committees, led weekend rides, picked-up our mail, paid our bills, arranged for speakers at meetings, and a lot more! How did he do it? We don’t know. What we know is that he did a great job as our president and we look forward to riding with him!

Jim Claffey was an accomplished skier who regularly skied some of the best European ski areas over maybe 30 years with local friends in that world. He often reminded us that skiing was his real passion. 

We collectively thank him for his friendship and years of service to the club, and mourn his passing.
