Come to the Island. Not Fantasy Island, Kent Island! On Tuesday, July 22 we’ll be riding what I call the Kent Island Flatlander, which has 27, 34 and 50-mile options. If you want to get away from civilization and enjoy a bit of Island life (with none of those nasty hills), join us for a fun Eastern Shore ride. Here are the details:
The ride will start at 9:30am on Tuesday, July 22. We will meet and park at Old Love Point Park, 300 Old Love Point Road, Stevensville, MD.
For the first 5 miles, this will be an all-together social ride till we get to the scenic Matapaeke Pier for a view of the Chesapeake Bay. We’ll take a group photo there. Then, if we wish, we can break into our normal speed groups.
Along the way we’ll have sightseeing stops at:
• Matapeake Pier, the Annapolis Ferry destination before the Bay Bridge opened in 1952.
• Kent Farm, the southernmost point of Kent Island • Romancoke Pier, destroyed by Hurricane Isabel in 2003 but now rebuilt
• Love Point, the northernmost point of Kent Island
There are public restrooms at Old Love Point Park and Romancoke Pier (approx. mile mark 18). Afterward, those who want to hang out can get lunch together at the nearby Bark Barbecue Cafe.
We can break into speed groups coming out of Matapeake Park (mile 4.7), with these Ride Leaders:
TBD - 18mph/avg
TBD - 16 mph/avg
TBD -14 mph/avg
There are restrooms at Old Love Point Park, and at Romancoke Pier.
RWGPS route: 50 miles
RWGPS route: 34 miles
RWGPS route: 27 miles
These routes are now in the ABC RWGPS club account.
