Can't get to the Five Borough Bike Tour in NYC? Ride through all four boroughs of Caroline County in a 60 mile route.
This ride visits little historic towns in Caroline County, on the Eastern shore of Maryland. It starts at Roosevelt Park in Queen Anne, a stone's throw away from Hillsboro.
Hillsboro is the oldest town in Caroline County, and boasts the county's first school and newspaper. The route follows the Tuckahoe Creek downstream, and then crosses the Choptank in Denton. The 90 mile route meanders through farmland and forest, passing by one of Caroline's highest points Opossum Hill at a thin air elevation of 52 feet.
Stop in Federalsberg for a water stop and skirt the Idylwild State Wildlife Management Area and the Marshyhope creek headed back north towards Greensboro, on the Choptank. Take a little tour of the town, grab a bite, and enjoy the view at the Choptank River Park. The route north from Greenboro skirts the Marshy headwaters of the Choptank and passes by the Pelot Bird Sanctuary on the way to Henderson.
From Henderson, head south to Goldsboro, renamed from Oldtown a long time ago...there are no restaurants so perhaps fill up with water at the fire station. Just prior to entering Ridgely you will pass Boonsboro...a historic town that was probably displaced to Ridgely a little to the East. From Ridgely, cut through Tuckahoe State Park and a quick spin in Queen Anne County back to the Queen Anne.
This route sells off Caroline County in ABC’s Tour of MD.
