A savage 57 miles and 5000 feet of elevation in Garrett and Allegany Counties with an incredible downhill run along the Savage River.
Ride starts at the Beall Elementary School in Frostburg, and immediately challenges with a Category 3 3.8 mile 1,000 foot climb up to the radio tower on Big Savage Mountain. Hang on the National Pike roller coaster for the next 8 miles cresting Little Savage Mountain and Meadow Mountain. Refill water at Valero after crossing I-68 about Mile 12.8 before heading through the Savage River State Forest. Immediately following the Twin Churches climb, there is an incredible 11 mile downhill run alongside Elk Lick Run and the Savage River. Follow the Savage River Road downstream around the the Savage River Reservoir and around Big Savage Mountain to Westernport. Take a break in Westernport, MD/Piedmont, WV prior to the 16 mile uphill slough back to Frostburg.
Pre-Ride meeting at 8:45 and bikes roll at 9:00. Weather forecast is 50's with a fresh breeze. Ride Leader is Chris Higgins. Expect an average speed 15-16mph. Register to let Chris know you plan to attend, and to receive last minute ride updates.
