9:00 AM start at Big Pool State Park: Ride the paved Western Maryland Rail Trail in Washington County, Maryland! The paved trail has been extended several miles since the fun ride last year. The Western Maryland Rail Trail (WMRT) is about 28 miles long and parallels the C&O Canal Towpath for its entire length. A paved, flat, linear trail, it is suited to anyone seeking a pleasant, leisurely outdoor experience.
We will carpool from the new trail parking lot at 1679 Millersville Road, Gambrills, MD 21054 by Maryland Muffler leaving at 7:30 AM. Transportation is available for five cyclists. Their bicycles will be transported on a trailer. Others may drive or car pool as well.
It will be a 90 minute drive to Big Pool State Park to begin our ride. We will stop in Hancock, MD while cycling for a quick lunch. Time permitting, we may cycle around Fort Frederick State Park and the old stone fort.
